FAQs
1. What BBQ accessories does Bing Lee stock?
We carry BBQ grill plates, hotplates, griddles, cooking tools (spatulas, tongs, brushes), grill mats, cleaning brushes, cover plates and more. These accessories are designed to enhance your BBQ's functionality, protect it from the elements and keep it performing well over time.
2. What is the difference between a grill plate and a hotplate?
A grill plate (or BBQ grill) has raised ridges or bars that allow fat to drip away from the food during cooking. This gives food characteristic grill marks and a slightly drier finish. A hotplate is a flat, solid cooking surface similar to a griddle pan - it retains heat more evenly across the whole surface and is better for cooking eggs, bacon, onions, fish fillets and other foods that would fall through or stick on a grill. Many BBQs come with both and allow you to swap between them.
3. Are BBQ accessories brand-specific or universal?
Replacement grill plates and hotplates are often brand and model-specific since they need to fit the exact dimensions of your BBQ's cooking area. BBQ tools like tongs, spatulas, brushes and thermometers are generally universal - they will work with any BBQ. BBQ covers are sized by BBQ dimension rather than brand, so measure your BBQ before buying a cover to ensure a proper fit.
4. How do I clean a BBQ grill or hotplate?
The easiest method is to clean the grills or hotplate while they are still hot after cooking. Turn the burners to high for five to ten minutes with the lid closed to burn off residue, then use a wire grill brush to scrub the surface clean while it is still hot. For cast iron grill plates and hotplates, season the surface with a light coat of cooking oil after cleaning to prevent rust and maintain a non-stick finish. Avoid soaking cast iron in water.
5. What should I look for in a BBQ cover?
A good BBQ cover should be made from a weatherproof material that can handle rain, UV exposure and temperature changes without degrading. Measure your BBQ's width, depth and height to find a cover that fits properly - a cover that is too large will be blown around in the wind and offer less protection. Covers with secure fastenings (buckles or drawstrings) stay put better in windy conditions. If your BBQ is stored outdoors year-round, investing in a high-quality cover is worth it to significantly extend the BBQ's lifespan.
