Curing one child at a time

Zero Childhood Cancer is the most ambitious childhood cancer initiative ever undertaken in Australia.

This world-class program is led by The Children’s Cancer Institute and the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick bringing together all major Australian clinical and research groups working in childhood cancer to offer Australia's first ever personalised medicine program for children with high-risk or relapsed cancer.

Every child taking part in Zero Childhood Cancer has a sample from their cancer sent to the Children’s Cancer Institute’s laboratories. Here, researchers analyse the cancer on a molecular level and identify which drug or drugs are most likely to be effective against it. An expert team then uses the results from all these tests to develop a personalised treatment plan – a plan that is specifically tailored to suit that individual child.

Why is Zero Childhood Cancer so important?

Just 60 years ago childhood cancer was a death sentence. Today, thanks to medical research, eight out of ten children will survive their cancer. But still, cancer kills more Australian children than any other disease – three children die every week. The Zero Childhood Cancer Program aims to take this number from three to two to one to zero children dying from cancer. And with your support we know can get there.
