Overview

The Breville Smart Grinder—Mornings suddenly got a lot less confusing.

Automatically doses the same amount every time you grind

Automatically doses the same amount every time you grind

The perfect coffee needs a precise amount of freshly ground beans. But adjustments in grind size require different grind times to achieve a consistent dose.

Breville's conical burr Smart GrinderTM uses Dosing IQ technology to automatically adjust the dose whenever you change the grind. Choose between 'cups' for French press or Filter, and 'shots' for Espresso to get the right dose for your coffee's needs. You can even tweak for taste.

The Smart GrinderProTM still has an LCD display, 450g removable hopper, and comes with two grinding cradles for dosing directly into 50-54mm or 58mm commercial espresso filters. In addition, there's an air-tight storage canister, suitable for plunger or filter coffee.

Very good grinder. Perfect for espresso, I haven’t tried the other settings. Quite easy to dismantle and clean. Love it!

Great for everyday domestic use. The reason for 4 stars; sound is louder than anticipated based on everything I read.
Forget the ‘quick setup guide’, use main manual or if you can access YouTube look up ‘Learn to use the Breville Smart Grinder™ Pro BCG820’.
The clip is 4.09 minutes, narrated by Phil McKnight from Breville. Be Patient; clip starts with how to use the grinder, the second part is how to dismantle and put it together.

The correct Grind - it took me 4 goes to get this right. If you haven’t used a grinder previously and are working on previous visual and touch you will be surprised how fine the grind is.
Check table in the manual for grind size.
Check the manual of appliance you are using to make the coffee with.
Don’t waste beans at this initial stage, only grind minimum amount until you get it right.
After use turn grinder off at power & unplug it -when turning it on again it will remember the last setting you used.
I get best results by grinding coffee as I need it.
Suggest you don’t fill the hopper up to top. Obviously varies on how much coffee is drunk per day.

Coffee Beans - You can buy a grinder for thousands of dollars however if the beans are old or not stored properly it will be a waste of money.
Make sure they are fresh, check for a packed date, more important than sell by.
If you don’t have a lot of storage space I would suggest you buy beans in a packet that has a ziplock closer & degassing valve (small & round with little holes - when you squeeze packet airflow is one way, out only).

Cleaning is easy. Use the brush and dry kitchen towel for best results on moving parts. Only use the brush on metal.

My only issue is making sure hopper is really dry. Water gets caught in locking system. If water droplets get into grinder it can easily clog up.

After drying hopper I found moving lock mechanism from lock to unlock is needed plus let it stand on paper towel until no more water drops come out. My final check is to put hopper back in place and lift it straight of again, DO NOT LOCK.
If water droplets are left on plate around grind mechanism hopper is not dry.

There are two of us and we grind, on average, enough beans for 8-10 cups a day at a grind setting of 30.
