Ken’s Shed Completion Near

‘Ken’s Shed’, as it is affectionately known at Bing Lee, is nearing completion with the final landscaping works currently underway. Designed as a tribute to the memory of the company’s co-founder Ken Lee, who passed away in December 2007, the new complex is located on the corner of Woodville Road and Fairfield Street in Sydney’s western suburb of Villawood.

The two storey building will incorporate Bing Lee’s largest store to date, a new warehouse as well as a new head office for over 40 staff on level one.

According to Bing Lee operations manager Peter Braithwaite, it has been a labour of love for everyone involved in the project and the result is a fitting tribute to Ken’s memory.

“It is very sad Ken can’t be with us as he would have been thrilled to see his vision finally become a reality, but his legacy will live on through Ken’s Shed.”

The new complex covers an area over three times the size of an average football field and the massive 8,700sqm purpose built warehouse on ground level is already completed and operational. The new 2,180sqm head office is due to be completed by the end of August 2008. Bing Lee’s flagship retail outlet, which includes a clearance store and ducted air-conditioning outlet, is scheduled for completion by late September 2008.

Phil Moujaes, Bing Lee General Manager, said the new landmark is a testament to Bing Lee’s continued success as a privately owned company and heralds a new era.

“These new state-of-the-art facilities will allow us to improve the business even further through increased monitoring of stock levels and availability, greater support for all stores and improving our customer delivery processes.”

According to Moujaes, Officeworks will be moving into a separate 1,550sqm space on ground level and there is the possibility of a restaurant moving into a vacant 820sqm area on level one later this year.
